Civil Designer

Location: Fort Worth, REQ424


With the use of computer aided design systems and in compliance with Dunaway standards and procedures, design complex concepts with regard to the engineering of basic infrastructure, including paving, water, sewer, grading and storm drainage (incumbent may focus on one or two specific aspects or many); troubleshoot related issues and create and implement design solutions; make independent decisions with minimal supervision and also work with an engineering team and/or Project Manager to fully complete all assignments; may also assist the Project Manager with varied levels of project-related tasks.


  • Perform design for civil paving, water, sewer, grading and storm drainage infrastructure; also continue to perform drafting and construction document production of more complex concepts of the same
  • Interpret engineer’s rough sketches and plan redlines to create and edit plans/drawings
  • Know and apply a broad knowledge of principles of design and engineering as well as fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures within the civil engineering field
  • Assist Project Manager / Project Engineer in the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, construction time opinions, cost opinions and permitting for projects
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and assist with cost opinions of design elements
  • Conduct property and existing utility research as needed on specific projects
  • Conduct job site visits and attend final walk-throughs as needed
  • Train, assist and mentor less experienced technicians
  • Maintain workload projections

  • Full-time position of 40 hours per week on a set schedule as determined by the company; may be required to work overtime

  • Associate’s Degree or Technical School Graduate in Computer Aided Drafting & Design, or equivalent direct experience (four years of drafting experience)
  • At least five years of progressive drafting experience with civil engineering infrastructure
  • At least one – two years design experience of the same

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to successfully perform design-related tasks including paving, water, sewer, grading and storm drainage infrastructure
  • Thorough understanding of drafting concepts and CADD fundamentals
  • Thorough understanding of key concepts and terminology used in the civil engineering field
  • Solid knowledge of and proficiency with Autocad Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office
