An entry-level engineering position responsible for providing technical support, including drafting and design, in the development/design of basic civil infrastructure, including paving, drainage, grading, water, and sanitary sewer improvements (incumbent may focus on all areas or just one or two areas of specific expertise).


  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks
  • Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
  • Assist the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer in the development and design of basic paving, drainage, grading, water, and sanitary sewer infrastructure, which consists of plans, specifications, and cost opinions
  • Working with the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer, ensure conformity with the project scope and applicable design standards
  • Interpret engineer’s rough sketches and plan redlines to create and edit plans/drawings
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and assists with cost opinions of design elements
  • Prepare project-related technical reports
  • Conduct property and existing utility research as needed on specific projects
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation software or other various software applications as design tools
  • Work closely with internal project team on plan production assignments
  • Maintain workload projections
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of civil infrastructure, including paving, drainage, grading, water, and sanitary sewer infrastructure
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation software or applicable design software related to the specific area of focus
  • Knowledge of and ability MS Office , primarily Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to provide basic project documentation
