Responsible for providing technical support, including drafting and design, in the development/design of basic to complex civil infrastructure, including paving, drainage, grading, water, and sanitary sewer improvements (incumbent may focus on all areas or just one or two areas of specific expertise)


  • Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results, and follows operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes; basic exercise of judgment is required
  • Assist the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer in the development and design of paving, drainage, grading, water, and sanitary sewer infrastructure, which consists of plans, specifications, and cost opinions
  • Working with the Project Manager / Project Engineer, ensure conformity with the project scope and applicable design standards; review design details and coordinate technical recommendations, assess the cost-effective constructability of the project, and generally evaluate the quality of the project
  • Prepare project related technical reports
  • Interpret project engineer’s / project manager’s rough sketches and plan redlines to create and edit plans/drawings
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and assists with cost opinions of design elements
  • Conduct property and existing utility research as needed on specific projects
  • Assist in the preparation of design calculations, such as storm drain, sanitary sewer, and water systems, roadway designs, and other supporting documentation
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation software or other various software applications as design tools
  • Work closely with internal project team on plan production assignments and may provide direction as applicable
  • Maintain workload projections on individual work
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) in the state of Texas
  • Two years prior civil engineering experience
  • Two years prior CADD design experience

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of civil infrastructure, including paving, drainage, grading, water, sewer infrastructure
  • Knowledge of and ability with utilizing the design functionality of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation software or any applicable software designed for specific area of focus
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to provide solid project documentation
