Landscape Architect II

JOB SUMMARY
Provide physical design solutions utilizing analysis and problem-solving techniques associated with the routine and complex design of land areas for both private and public projects; direct and manage all aspects of assigned projects with regard to landscape design working closely with the client as well all other internal/external contributors to ensure successful completion of the project in compliance with all contractual provisions and timeframe/budget limitations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, develop, modify, and review routine to complex aspects of landscape design through sketches, presentation drawings, working drawings diagrams, schedules, etc. Prepare site analysis, conceptual plans, construction documents and plans, specifications, supporting documents and permit applications for both private and public projects
  • Prepare concept plans, lot layouts, industrial/ warehouse plans, commercial site plans, zoning and variance cases, and other planning documents
  • Prepare layout, grading, material selection, lighting, irrigation, and signage coordination, cost estimates and other supporting documentation for public and/or private projects
  • Analysis of regulatory review requirements and procedures; advise clients on the development application and approval process for municipalities
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with landscape plans or drawings and develop solutions
  • Manage assigned projects by establishing a work plan for each phase of the project, forecast resources, maintain workload projections, monitor utilization, and ensure compliance with all contractual obligations and delivery of services
  • Prepare contract proposals and contract amendments for client consideration with the assistance of either the Sr. Landscape Architect or Director
  • Prepare fee estimates and invoices and monitor billing collection
  • Perform site visits and conduct inspections of work performed
  • Often direct the work of Technicians and less senior Landscape Architects
  • Serve as primary point of contact for client communication, internal/external team member communication, and represents company at public hearings and meetings
  • Work closely with existing clients to maintain positive communications/relationships
  • Coordinate with business development initiatives for possible leads and assist in selling services
  • Assist in the management of Landscape Architect team members

 WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Full-time position of minimum of 40 hours per week on a set schedule as determined by the company; may be required to work overtime
  • Air conditioned office environment
  • During site visits, which are occasional, potential exposure to weather and various terrain
  • Exposure to external weather, etc., due to offsite client meetings, site visits, and related functions

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Walk, stand, bend, squat, twist and reach
  • May occasionally walk extended distances on various terrain during site visits
  • Simple grasping and fine manipulation
  • Extended keyboarding and mouse manipulation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture
  • Registered Landscape Architect in the state of Texas
  • At least five years landscape design experience
  • At least one year prior project management experience

 Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of preparation of construction documents as related to site design
  • Knowledge of development and construction methods and materials
  • Understanding of municipal zoning, subdivision, and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, and SketchUp design software
  • Solid knowledge of and proficiency with MS Office, with strong skills in Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of and ability to estimate costs associated with technical tasks
  • Solid understanding and experience with design principles
  • Firm understanding of project financial performance metrics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two plus years prior project management experience
  • Prior business development experience
  • Experience with construction observation
