Devon Energy

For almost 20 years, Devon Energy, an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company, has trusted Dunaway to provide ongoing services to support projects in Texas and Oklahoma. Dunaway has performed civil engineering, environmental, survey and GIS services. We have evaluated future sites, prepared floodplain development permits (FDPs), designed grading plans, performed Phase I assessments and ALTA surveys, prepared Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) filed with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and created GIS databases. Typically, these projects have included evaluating the impact of a proposed well pad and/or lease roads on floodplain elevations and extents to ensure no adverse impact to off-site property owners, often with abbreviated timelines due to tight drilling schedules.

Devon projects have varied over the years, with numerous environmental projects along the shale natural gas pipelines. Dunaway provided services for over 200 miles of natural gas pipeline right-of-ways along the Barnett Shale and Haynesville-Bossier Shale in North Texas, and the Woodford Shale area in Oklahoma. Environmental services included jurisdictional waters determination, threatened and endangered species, and archeological coordination. Dunaway prepared natural resources assessment for Devon which included multiple exhibits created with ArcGIS, a geographic information system program.

Dunaway has also provided site assessments as part of Devon Energy’s land acquisition evaluations. For the Barnett Shale, Dunaway assessed over 1,500 gas well sites, including approximately 1,300 acres of property surveys. Overall services included environmental assessments, survey and civil engineering. We provided boundary surveys, record searches, and construction staking, and assisted in surveying the limits of floodplains and as-builts to determine any impact on the floodway. Boundary corners located in the field and accurate lease boundaries were determined. Environmental site evaluations included Phase I assessments, with site visits identifying potential problems and impacts with migratory bird surveys, threatened and endangered species surveys, waters of the U.S. delineations, stream restoration remedies, re-vegetation plans, etc. Dunaway evaluated proposed frac pond locations associated with the well sites for possible impacts to waters of the U.S. and whether the proposed locations were in a FEMA-designated floodplain. A GIS inventory database was developed to retain geo-spatial data on each well site, providing a single-source for all project files, findings, maps, documents and more.
