Survey Field Assistant

Location: Austin, REQ478



  • Conduct all daily survey preparation, including loading the vehicle with all necessary supplies and ensuring all equipment is fully charged and functioning
  • Conduct basic plan reading to prepare for surveying at hand (i.e., site plans, boundary plans, highway plans, profile and cross sections, horizontal and vertical curves, pipeline plans, foundation plans, and developing existing and finished contours)
  • Perform basic surveys including leveling, traversing, boundary surveys, construction surveys, topographic surveys, and horizontal/vertical control surveys
  • Operate, check, and make basic field adjustments on field equipment to include but not limited to transits, total stations, robotic total stations, data collectors, levels, compass, tribrachs, tripods, and GPS equipment (RTK, RTN, Static, etc.)
  • Interpret control and boundary monument records and data sheets, as well as locate control and boundary monuments in the field
  • Drive company vehicle to and from job sites and company premises when needed
  • Ensure equipment and supplies are organized and orderly in equipment storage room

  • Perform any other duties as assigned



  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record


  • Proficient with mid-level math
  • High attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Good analytical skills


  • Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperatures and grassy/rocky or steep terrain
  • Exposure to potentially harmful plants and wildlife
  • Must be able to walk, stand, kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb and reach while surveying project sites and operating survey equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry axes, survey supplies, additional equipment weighing up to 50 pounds to/from and during job site visits
  • Must be able to use a brush axe, machete or hammer
  • Occasional travel requiring long-distance commutes, overnight stays, or temporary relocation near a job site
